I am Scottish visual artist and writer currently based in Glasgow. My work explores the complex emotional landscapes of the human experience and the malleable, murky, subconscious and often partly fictional nature of human perception. Due to my interest in uncanniness and unreality, my work often teeters on the line between beauty and quiet horror. I am interested in humanities age-old penchant for utilising fantasy, spirituality, myth-making and world-building in order to process the contradictions, mysteries, beauties and tragedies of our everyday experiences. My writing and visual work both exist within the same universes and inform each others progression, creating a coherent, narrative driven reality. At once tongue-in-cheek and deadly serious, my work poses absurdist questions such as "Is an elf bar buried under a frozen pond a metaphor for our collective spiritual bankruptcy, or is it just an elf bar? "
The specificity of my references operates within James Joyce's idea that “in the particular is contained the universal". I hope that the idiosyncratic, frequently auto-biographical nature of my work manages to tap into the collective unconscious, eliciting a sensation which is at once familiar and foreign, unlikely yet instantly recognisable. Dejavu for an experience which you are certain you have never had.
My work is for sale on a sliding scale. Please email to enquire about prices.
